48 Hours in Exeter: The Ultimate Weekend Guide

Exeter – the historic heart of Devon, offers the perfect blend of culture, history, and vibrant food scenes. Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or an outdoor enthusiast, this 48-hour guide will help you make the most of your time in this charming city.

Day 1: Exploring History & Culture

Morning: Discover Exeter’s Heritage

Start your day with breakfast at The Exploding Bakery, a cozy café known for its artisan coffee and delicious pastries. Try their signature cinnamon buns or a hearty sourdough toastie to fuel up for the day.

After breakfast, head to Exeter Cathedral, one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England. Take a guided tour to learn about its fascinating history, from medieval stained glass to the famous astronomical clock.

From there, stroll down Exeter’s Underground Passages, a network of medieval tunnels originally built to bring fresh water into the city. The guided tour is a unique experience that gives you a glimpse into Exeter’s amazing past.

For dinner, book a table at Stage, one of Exeter’s best fine dining restaurants, known for its seasonal tasting menu that showcases the best of Devon’s local produce.

If you’re in the mood for a nightcap, head next door to the Darwin Gin Bar a must-visit for craft cocktails served in a vintage-inspired setting.


Day 2: Nature, Local Eats & Hidden Gems

Morning: A Scenic Walk & Brunch

Start your second day with a refreshing walk at Haldon Forest Park, just a short drive from the city. The park offers beautiful walking and cycling trails with stunning views over the Devon countryside.
