Where to stay in India

As a British Expat who has lived in India for the past 4 years, I have taken this amazing opportunity to explore India in every way possible.

The below are my top 10 hotels in India. I’ve included hotels from different parts of India that cater to different traveller types and represent how wide and vast India is and show how there is something for everyone.

Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur, Rajasthan

One of the most iconic hotels in India, set within the middle of a lake and accessible only by boat. Built as a palace in the 18th century – you will be treated like royalty while staying here. Either spend the day relaxing by the pool and spa, or take the boat to the city and explore the palaces and temples.

The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa, Kashmir

Peached within the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas – 8,825 feet above sea level is The Khyber – a 85 room resort. This has ski in and ski out facilities, as well as being a 7min walk from the Gulmarg Gondola – the worlds highest ski lift.

Wildflower Hall, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh

Surrounding by a glorious mountain range and lush green gardens – the Wildflower Hotel is perfect for a short stay if you are road tripping up to the Himalayas, or for a wonderful long weekend adventure. Relax by the outdoor infinity jacuzzi or join one of the daily hikes or yoga classes.

CGH Earth – SwaSwara, Karnataka

For those looking to find their inner zen – this ones for you. A 2 hour drive from Goa Airport, nestled along Om beach you find SwaSwara. With a focus on wellness and ayurveda this sanctuary offers daily yoga, breath work, cooking classes as well as art therapy so you will never run out of things to do here.

Soho House, Mumbai

It can be hard to find a moment of peace in the hustle and bustle of Mumbai – however Soho House offers just that. A little further away from the famous attractions of Mumbai allowing you to soak in the beach views from your room and the cozy interiors. Top Tip – Non-Members can also stay here! La Villa, Pondicherry

Tucked away behind an unassuming door – you have La Villa. A 5 bedroom property in an old colonial house, within the heart of Pondicherry. Minutes walk from all the main attractions, shops and restaurants.

The Kumaon, Uttarakhand

The Kumaon is a secluded mountain sanctuary tucked away in a serene mountain ridge, basking in the shadow of the majestic Nanda Devi Range. Take part in hikes and temple visits during you stay, and ensure to try the amazing local food served at the restaurant.

Suryagarh, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

An example of amazing Rajasthani architecture, you can’t help but awe stuck upon entering this hotel. After a long day exploring the golden city and the famous desert, head to the pool to cool down or join a yoga class where you can practise your chanting.

Glenburn Tea Estate, Darjeeling

A colonial building from the 1800s up high within the Himalayan mountain range and on the banks of the River Rungeet set up within a working tea plantation. Stay in one of 8 rooms, and awaken to the see the snowy mountain ranges and be greeted with a cup of the Glenburn tea.
